About SoFiMastercardSettle

sofi bank has started settling mastercard debit and credit card transactions with sofiusd, its own bank-issued stablecoin. merchants still receive ordinary dollars. the full card program, expected to exceed $25b a year, is still migrating, and sofi hasn't said how much has settled so far. sofi earns interest on the cash backing each token, $52.5m at june 30, so its gain depends on how much more sofiusd people hold, not on card spending volume.

CRYPTO THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED — LAST 24 HOURS | 23 SEPTEMBER 2026
A US bank just moved $25B of annual card payments onto stablecoin settlement—while another $876.9M entered crypto ETFs.
This is real financial infrastructure, not a pilot.

1/3 — SOFI MOVES CARD SETTLEMENT ONCHAIN
SoFi began settling debit and credit-card transactions on Mastercard’s network using its own dollar-backed stablecoin, SoFiUSD.
The programme is expected to process more than $25B annually, making SoFi the first US bank to announce this type of stablecoin card settlement.
Investor takeaway: stablecoins are moving behind everyday payments, where consumers may never see the blockchain layer. Barron’s
2/3 — ETF BUYING REMAINED HUGE
Tuesday’s completed US session recorded:
🟢 Spot $BTC ETFs: $714.7M inflow
🟢 Spot $ETH ETFs: $162.2M inflow
🟢 Combined: $876.9M
Across Monday and Tuesday, the combined total reached approximately $2.15B.
BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC attracted $607.7M between them on Tuesday. This is sustained institutional demand—not one isolated session. Bitcoin flows | Ethereum flows
3/3 — THE PRICE/FLOW DIVERGENCE MATTERS
$BTC pulled back from above $86,000 toward $84,000 despite the ETF buying.
That suggests profit-taking or derivatives pressure is temporarily overpowering spot demand. It is not automatically bearish—but if nearly $2.15B of two-day inflows cannot hold the breakout, traders should watch for a deeper reset before assuming the next leg higher.

The hidden shift: banks are beginning to use stablecoins as invisible settlement infrastructure while institutions keep buying the liquid majors.
Which signal matters more—the $2.15B ETF wave or $BTC failing to hold $86K?

The U.S. 10-Year just hit 5.1% for the first time since 2007 which is an obvious headwind because $SOFI still trades like a lender when rates move higher.
But the business really is starting to look more like a platform as member growth and product adoption continue to scale.
Just yesterday SoFi became first U.S. national bank to go live with stablecoin settlement across $MA network with $25B+ in annual volume expected through SoFiUSD.
